A fine art photograph of the sun setting behind Mt. Sopris in Carbondale, CO. Mt. Sopris is the queen of the 14teeners in Colorado at an elevation of 12953 ft. Located in the Elk Range of the Rocky mountains it is a pristine viewing point of the rugged and majestic terrain. Mt. Sopris is no beginners climb, toward the top are endless scree fields of loose boulders and rocks. A definitely ankle breaking hike to the top, so each step needs to be judged. Chris crossing the scree fields is a helpful way to climb, more sure footed than straight up. The sun set is best seen from the bottom of the mountain unless you had made plans to camp for the night. In the early afternoon are the lightening storms which move in and it is not a place to be during those times, unless hunkered down in a tent, clear from harm's way.
