This a Fine Art photo of the Susie Q Malt Shop neon sign. Celebrating fifty years in business, the Susie Q Malt Shop, still remains a favorite in Rogers Arkansas. It is well known throughout Northwestern region for its fantastic hamburgers and shakes. The building is old and the atmosphere in the malt shop has changed very little over the decades. People grew up coming on their first date there, some were even engaged there and a few even married there. It is definitely a family place. Opened by Mildred Head in the 1960s, she had never ran a business before, but she knew how to cook the basics. Susie Q was once a fruit market owned by her cousin. So in an impulsive moment she decided Rogers needed a reasonable place to eat and the malt shop was born. She had not chosen a name for her restaurant, but one day she was cutting french fires with the new machine she bought. The French Fry cutter was called a Susie Q and hence forth became the name of her new malt shop in the little town of Rogers. Mildred had never heard of the song "Susie Q" written by Dale Hawkins or that it had been sung by Ricky Nelson, Creedence Clearwater or even Jose Feliciano. Mildred was not a music fan, but a fan of the American staples, burgers, fires and a shake a great price. Mildred Head passed on in 2002 and left her tasty traditions in the hands of her son and his wife, who recently passed on the malt shop to their children. Perhaps, one day the Susie Q Malt Shop will celebrate its 100th birthday.
