Visual advertising is an age old art, whether it is the hand painted sign to neons or the available side of wood or brick walls, one way or the other the advertiser will get the point across. Roadside businesses have changed very little in the last decade, except for their creativity of designs. In the 1920s to the 1960s there was an important energy to establish clearly what the business was about. If it was a shoe shop, they often had a large shoe out front, if it was a clothing store, one might find an over sized shirt, if it were a pharmacy, the sign would say in big letters “DRUGS.” Everything was to the point, no odd or fancy names, they took the guess work out of finding what you needed.
