This is a Fine Art photo motel 'Shangri-La sign which was located somewhere in the US. It is a good bet that this motel was named after Shangri-La, the mystical place in James Hilton’s 1933 novel "Lost Horizon". Many people associate Shangri-La with a fanciful utopia in the Himalayas, supposedly in the Hunza Valley. In 1937, Frank Capra turned the book into a film starring Ronald Colman and Jane Wyatt. It was believed that is was filmed in the Ojai Valley of California. Since this motel is no longer in existence, it seems that we can't find a Shangri-La today; not even a motel. However, one can own a great photo of 'Shangri-La' and remind yourself that if once there was a such unique place, why not again? create it for yourself. An extensive article on the collectible books of James Hilton appears in the September issue of Firsts magazine.
