This is a Fine Art photo of the Redstone, Colorado sign. This beautiful little hollow was built by John Cleveland Osgood, the coal king, and who was considered by some to be a Robber Baron. It was his intention to build a Utopian coal town which had a home for him, the Redstone Castle (which is rumored to be haunted), the Redstone Inn, cottages for the workers, a theater, school, library and other buildings. The town had its own railroad stop and was thus convenient for the many famous visitors such as fellow industrialists J.P. Morgan, Jay Gould, John D. Rockefeller and President Teddy Roosevelt to come for a visit. However, after the silver crash, the mines closed and the town fell into disrepair and languished for a while. It could have become another ghost town, but instead Redstone has become a popular tourist attraction with fantastic wood carvers and marble workers, plus many craft stores selling the hand goods of the locals, actually, fine works of art on their own. There are hunting, fishing, snowmobiling expeditions, naturally cross country skiing. Redstone has the most magnificent scenery surrounding the town, with high narrow mountains in subtle hughes of reds, hence the name Redstone. Highway 133 snakes it way there on a two lane road which is framed by the Crystal River on one side and the sharp jagged mountains on the other.
