This is a Fine art photo of the marquee sign for the old Lyric Theatre in Bisbee, Arizona. Sadly this wonderfully hand painted sign is now gone. There is no way to save such a work of art when it is part of the side of a building which was torn down to make space for a parking lot. There are many Lyric Theatres through out the world, but the one in Bisbee was special. At the turn of the century Bisbee had become the largest small city between St Louis and San Francisco, it was known as the most cultured town in the Southwest. The Lyric Theatre played a most important part in this claim to fame, so much so that performers from both coasts and other countries came to sing and act upon its stage. Al Jolson, Sarah Bernhardt, George Alexander, Will Rogers and many more graced the boards of this renowned theatre.
