This is a Fine Art photo of an old prairie house in Mt. Hope, Kansas. This old prairie house was built at the turn of the century on homesteaded land. This was not an easy task, because every piece of lumber was sawed by hand and carried over a long distance using only horse power. Kansas is not known for its large caches of standing forests, so building a house was certainly a challenge, most people made do with adobe structured homes with wood as accent in the windows and doors. Prairie living was the most difficult, endless howling winds that could drive one mad and weather conditions which could threaten your life and everything that you have built, all of it gone in a minute with a Kansas Tornado.
