This is a Fine Art photo of the famous 'EL Rancho Motel' neon sign in Gallup, New Mexico. There is nothing like sleeping in the same room that John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart, Kirk Douglas, Spencer Tracy, Gregory Peck and even Ronald Regan had slept in at some time. Not to forget the likes of the charming Katherine Hepburn and Jane Wyman. The El Rancho Hotel and Motel has seen them all. Built by E.W. Griffith, the brother of the famous film director D. W. Griffith, the El Rancho opened its doors in 1937. It has been the headquarters for many well known Western movies, such as ‘THE STREETS OF LOREDO’, ‘RATON PASS’ ‘THE DESERT SONG’, ‘FORT DEFINACE’, ‘NEW MEXICO’, and ‘THE HALLELUJAH TRAIL.’ The El Rancho is still open for business today, so one can see the wonderful Western style appointments in the lobby with its huge fireplace, carved arches, mission furniture and light fixtures. There are many rooms to choose from, each named after an important Hollywood celebrities of the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. Travel back in time to the El Rancho and enjoy a New Mexico adventure.
