Old Town Bar and Restaurant, New York City

This is a Fine Art photo of the famed 'Old Town Bar and Restaurant' neon sign located in New York City. It first opened its door's in 1892. It was known then as 'Viemeister's' with the influx of German immigrants, it served up a hearty menu of German classic cuisine. It had a 'men only' bar downstairs and family dinning upstairs. Things drastically changed during prohibition, as did, the name to simply Craig's Restaurant. The booths were cleverly converted so the seats lifted up and there could be quick hide away of any evidence of alcohol. In 1933 the place was rescued, so to speak, by Claus Lohden and given the name it goes by today, "Old Town Bar and Restaurant." There have been various owners since, but everyone knew that leaving the bar and eatery has it once was, was the best idea to insure its authenticity. It has been featured on 'Late Night With David Letterman Show' on NBC. It became 'Riff's Bar' in the sitcom MAD ABOUT YOU. And Hollywood has used the Old Town Bar and Restaurant in several movies, such as; 'The Devils Own', 'The Last Days Of Disco', and 'Bullets Over Broadway.' The place has maintained its original atmosphere of 19th century New York with frosted doors, beautiful tiled terrazo floors and elegant mahogany back bar. Just imagine this delightful neon photo enlarged and printed on canvas, then hung in your large Tuscan style kitchen. It would give you that special pop of color that everyone is going for today in the neon expression.
