This is a Fine Art photo of the 'Ludlow Cafe' sign in Ludlow, California. Located along the Will Roger’s Highway, better known as US Route 66 which opened on November 11, 1926. It became the ‘Main Street of America’ or the ‘Mother Road’ giving hope to thousands of migrants traveling along its 2,448 miles. Fleeing from the horrible conditions of the 1930s Dust Bowl and their failed crops to the millions who drove on its pavement heading West during the Great Depression. Route 66 was not the tourist highway it is today, but a road to a new future. It begins in Chicago, Illinois and runs through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and ends in Santa Monica, California. The old Ludlow Café was an important stop before crossing the Mojave Desert. It was the last chance to fill up with gas and provisions before heading down that long hot road ahead and its eventual end, to what was once known as the promise land, Southern California. An interesting article on Ludlow appears in the Winter 2005/6 of Route 66 Magazine. If you missed the fascinating article in the out of date issue of Route 66 magazine, you still have the opportunity to own a photo of the Ludlow cafe sign. It is a great photo, especially, if your last name is Ludlow. Order a wall size canvas print and hang it on your front door. No telling who may show up.
