A fine art photo of Willie G Davidson of the Harley Davidson clan. Even though William G. Davidson was born into the well known Harley-Davidson Motorcycle family, he was never given a free ride. He worked his way through the University of Wisconsin. With his own talent and merit was accepted to the 'Art Center College Of Design' in Pasadena California. He worked as an automobile designer for years, spending some time at the Ford Motor company. While in his years in California he became fascinated by motorcycle customization and the creative aspect of having your bike being 'one of kind'. This concept became his hobby during his free time at home. In 1963 Willie G found his way back home to Wisconsin and was hired to join the design department of Harley-Davidson. In 1969 he was promoted to the stature of Vice President of Styling. However, the old boy net work, offered much resistance to Willie G's progressive design ideas. After much pushing on Willie G's part one of his designs finally made it from paper to finished product. It was the FX Super Glide, for Harley-Davidson that was their first introduction of custom choppers and cruisers. The original FX style opened up Harley-Davidson to offer many variations of that style bike, which created some of their best selling machines. Often, for Willie G. it was an up hill climb to keep Harley-Davidson going. It was then owned by the conglomerate AMF. Luckily Willie and thirteen other company executive investors bought the company from AMF. But it was Willie G. that really kept this great American company going into bankruptcy. With Willie G's insight and creative temperament he lead Harley-Davidson back into the spotlight of the best made American motorcycles.
