This is a Fine Art photo of an old vintage 'Veltex' sign. When more highways were built through out the United States during the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s many more people were out driving on family adventures. Naturally, there needed to be 're-fueling stations' for gas to be purchased. In the 1930s the Fletcher Oil Company of Douglas, Georgia began to open Veltex stations in the Southern states. Soon there was a great deal of competition with bigger oil corporation opening what they called "Service Stations", businesses that offered more than just gas, but full service automotive assistance. The Fletcher Oil Company is still in business today, but has closed all their Veltex stations, the last one closed in 1963.
