This is a Fine Art photo of a vintage Ford Service sign. The Ford Motor Company was incorporated on June 16, 1903 by Henry Ford. The factory is located in Dearborn Michigan and has gone on to be fifth largest car manufacturer in the world. One of the very few to survive the Great Depression. It still remains one of the few family controlled companies of its kind in the world. It has been over 100 years in the knowledgeable hands of several family members. Through many years of struggling production, high employee turn over and the typical in fighting among share holders, Henry Ford took a step back and changed the way his company treated workers. He had to address the employee turn over problem, because it slowed production and increased the price of each vehicle sold. For starters he doubled the pay of the average worker to $5 per day and only had them work an eight hour day, five days a week. He also hired the disabled, who were shunned by other companies. They paid Henry Ford back by working harder than anyone else. As employee contentment rose and turn over plummeted so did the cost of the cars. Henry Ford was the only car manufacturer who kept announcing that he, was once, again lowering the price of his cars. He also created the concept of Franchise Ford dealerships. The public wanted to buy a Ford and so he made available Franchised Ford dealerships through out the United States. This through Wall Street into a tail spin when it became clear that Henry Ford was so generous to his workers that his employees were paid enough to even own the car they were manufacturing.
